Orion Magazine recently published an essay by Amanda Giracca that explores the benefits of taking students into the field.

Giracca is a Prescott College alumna and attended our NSF-funded workshop, “The Decline in Field Studies:  Proactive Strategies for Essential Training for the Next Generation of Biological Researchers,” held at the Natural History Institute at Prescott College in March 2016.

Giracca writes, “Where, in the midst of our nation’s specialization, digitization, and science-technology-engineering-math frenzy is there room for nature? In this quest to acquire more and more raw information, how does a student learn to pause and ask questions? To make observations and draw meaningful conclusions?”
