Did you know there are over 1,000 native bee species in the state of Arizona? In a special field experience follow-up to her talk at the Natural History Institute, Dr. Olivia Messinger Carril will lead a small group on a riverside walk and talk, looking for bees, the plants they visit, and the places they nest. We will catch (and hold!) native bees and get to know how they have evolved to be the excellent and efficient pollinators that they are. Participants will learn how to identify some of our most common native bees and will use nets to practice their bee collecting techniques. More into capturing with photography rather than nets? We will also discuss how to take photos of bees on flowers in the field.
