Native Grasses Walk with Debbie DeWolf Allen

September 17, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

$25

Join NHI and local grasses expert Debbie DeWolf Allen, author of the book Common Grasses of the Central Arizona Highlands, for a morning walk to learn to identify our native grasses.

After monsoon season, did you ever notice the vast diversity of distinctive grasses on your walks and wonder what they were? Join NHI and local grasses expert Debbie DeWolf Allen, author of the book Common Grasses of the Central Arizona Highlands, for a morning walk to learn to identify some of the common grasses found in our area. This easy local Prescott walk is on a fairly level dirt path with bountiful grass viewing. We will walk slowly up to 3 miles with lots of opportunities to stop and learn.

“I have just made out my first Grass, hurrah! hurrah! I must confess that Fortune favours the bold, for as good luck would have it, it was the easy Anthoxanthum odoratum: nevertheless it is a great discovery; I never expected to make out a grass in all my life. So Hurrah. It has done my stomach surprising good.”

– Charles Darwin

Join us to follow in the footsteps of Darwin and cheer your first grass identification! Copies of Debbie’s book will be available after the walk.

Registration: $25

Participants will meet at a local park at 9am (details provided after registration), and the walk will go until 11am. Space is limited to 15 people.
