From meadows to gardens and spanning thousands of years of human history, the story of sunflowers has long intertwined with ours. Learn more about this iconic plant in a webinar conversation with sunflower expert Dr. Nora Mitchell.
 
Sunflowers have an incredible diversity of species and a complicated history of domestication. From the many (often overlooked) sunflower species to the details we can see if we take the time to look, this webinar will explore the intersection of natural history, ecology, and evolution through the study of these golden-flowered plants. 

Dr. Nora Mitchell is a plant evolutionary biologist with a specialty in plant hybridization. She is currently an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, where she teaches courses ranging from introductory organismal biology to plant diversity and evolution. She has performed extensive fieldwork in South Africa and in the United States, ranging from the Northeast to the Southwest and now the Upper Midwest. She is passionate about undergraduate education and inspiring everyone to gain an appreciation for plants.
