In this special event hosted by the Natural History Institute, local artists Rebecca Davis and Roger Asay will premiere their new book with a talk about their work accompanied by a short video of the installation process of their sculpture Arizona River Series.
Asay and Davis are well known for their sculptural work using natural materials. The work is simple, direct, and focuses on the organic qualities of the wood or stone they present in their art. Wood & Stone, Substance & Spirit: The Sculptural Collaboration of Rebecca Davis & Roger Asay was published in part with support from the NHI and features an introduction by William L. Fox. The 248-page book gives a resplendent visual overview of the exhibitions, temporary outdoor installations, public art, and well-known wood spheres the artists created from 1983 to 2021.
Copies of the book may be purchased during the event, and can be signed by the artists after the event.
Doors open at 6:30pm.
*The event is free but space is limited and registration is required to attend. Masks are encouraged in the building. The talk will be live-streamed to our YouTube channel for those unable to attend in person.
