Volunteer Workday: Verde Watershed Restoration

January 20, 2025 @ 8:30 am - 3:00 pm

Join Friends of the Verde River and Prescott National Forest in a volunteer workday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Our goal is to restore the native habitat by building erosion control and gully site restoration structures. We will be implementing loose rock structures and juniper structures on the landscape and in gully systems to stabilize and improve the watershed.

You can play a vital role in conducting watershed stabilization practices in one of Prescott National Forest’s top-priority watersheds. To reach the site, a high-clearance vehicle is required, and we’ll be carpooling from the Safeway parking lot in Chino Valley. It’s essential for you to arrive promptly and be prepared with long sleeves, long pants, eye protection, sturdy work boots, lunch, snacks, and an ample supply of water. Our work will involve moving rock and juniper by hand, with some assistance from UTVs and trailers.

Location: Munds Draw – meet at Chino Valley Safeway or in Jerome, approximately 1 hour drive on dirt roads from there
Time: 8:30am – 3:00pm
Age Recommendation: Ages 12 and over are recommended
Special Considerations: Tasks may be physically challenging and requires heavy lifting. Hiking off trail will be necessary.
