Gather for the Winter Solstice at the Natural History Institute!

Join us for a warm and welcoming seasonal celebration as we prepare for the longest night of the year with community, reflection, and gratitude. As we welcome the winter season, we invite you to explore the institute’s scientific collections, the current art exhibit Return to Stone, and enjoy an afternoon dedicated to connection and appreciation.

  • Wander through our herbarium and discover something new. Whether you’re a long-time supporter or a first-time visitor, this is an opportunity for a fascinating glimpse into the natural world we protect and study.
• Browse the Art Gallery
  • Visit our gallery for one of your last chances to experience Return to Stone, the current exhibition by Carolyn Schmitz (on view through January 9, 2026). In this playful and contemplative collection, Schmitz transforms “ordinary” stones—left completely unaltered—into imaginative cities, faces, and forms. Her work invites reflection on time, creativity, and nature’s enduring presence. Enjoy this unique exhibit in a warm, festive atmosphere before it closes.
