The Canyon Wren of the American West is typically on the go, searching cliffs, caves, old buildings, and fallen logs for invertebrate prey.  The lively, descending song of a Canyon Wren is one of the most arresting, uplifting, and enchanting voices in the rugged country where they occur. In this painting, I sought to honor this charming, gravity-defying songster that to me epitomizes wilderness. I wanted to contrast the soft textures of feathers with the hardness of convoluted wood.
